  • Students should be comfortable with the fundamentals of the Autodesk Revit software as taught in the Autodesk Revit
Architecture Fundamentals course. Knowledge of basic techniques is assumed, such as creating walls, roofs, and other
objects, copying and moving objects, creating and working with views, etc.
  • Collaboration Tools, BIM management, and Site and Structural Design are taught in additional courses.
  • The course assumes prior knowledge of 3D modelling and CAD software, however Students do not need to be
experienced with the Windows operating system.

The Autodesk® Revit® software is a powerful Building Information Modelling (BIM) program that works the way Architects and Engineers think. The software streamlines the design process with a central 3D model. Changes made in one view update across all views and on the printable sheets. This training guide is designed to give you an overview of the Autodesk Revit (Architecture, Structure, and MEP) functionality especially as it pertains to Project Managers. You begin by learning about the concept of BIM and the basics of the user. You then proceed using basic modifying tools and how to troubleshoot and view the projects. There is a section on working in multi-discipline project and in a collaborative environment using work sets

  • Understand the purpose of Building Information Management (BIM) and how it is applied in the Autodesk Revit Software
  • Navigate the Autodesk Revit workspace and interface
  • Working with the basic modifying and modelling tools
  • Troubleshooting elements in projects
  • Working with sheets for plotting
  • Exporting files to CAD formats and DXF (the Autodesk® Design Review software)
  • Various viewing tools including creating sections
  • Working with schedules
  • Linking and importing CAD files and Autodesk Revit Models into projects
  • Using work sets in collaborative environments
  • (Optional) Creating details

Students engage with the software through a project which combines learned functions in a workflow context and affords students the freedom to explore application with reassurance of ‘over-the-shoulder’ instructor support. Interactive learning is promoted with whiteboard explanation and open discussion is actively encouraged.
