Welcome to the golden age of game development

Together with Autodesk and Majenta Solutions, you can start making your game today. Get your game ideas onto a digital canvas to develop yourself or collaborate and share with others.

Game Design Software allows you to start organising your ideas in the Game Design document. Create concept art for your characters and environments and begin developing your story.

Design the Game

The game design phase covers many areas and sets the groundwork for the rest of the game making process. Start by writing down all your ideas in the Game Design document.

  • Game design: Define your game idea in more detail. The story, gameplay mechanics, fun factor, a list of assets to build, and a development schedule are just a few aspects to consider
  • Concept art: Create concept art to visually establish and communicate the look and feel of your game, so 3D artists can build it and give it life
  • Story development: Tell the story of your game. It might be simple or highly complex, but knowing your story will guide many other design decisions

Create Characters and Environments

Using your concept art, create 3D models with game development software like Maya LT. Then, paint your models to give them a distinct look. Finally, animate your game characters to bring them to life.

  • 3D modeling: Create 3D models for every character, environment, and item in your game, based on your concept art
  • Texture and materials: Add colours, textures, and lighting to your 3D models to give them a unique look
  • Rigging: Build a control structure for items that need movement, like characters, so animators can bring them to life in the game
  • Animation: Add movement to characters and objects to give them life and make your game more fun to play

Build your Game

The build phase is where you put together everything you’ve created so far. This is where you import all your 3D models into the game engine, lay out levels, script gameplay, and optimise performance.

It’s important to keep testing the game as you build it, to make sure it’s fun to play. Ask people you trust to test your game and give you feedback. The ultimate goal is to make a fun experience that can be shared with other players.

  • Assemble: Bring all the basic building blocks you’ve made into your game engine, so you can start making your game
  • Build levels: Build your game levels by putting together the pieces you’ve made to create a vibrant and engaging game world
  • Script gameplay: Bring your game to life by defining puzzles, interactions, and unique gameplay sequences that turn basic levels into real fun
  • Optimise and test: Test your game to make sure it’s fun—and to find out what’s broken. Then, optimise the game to make sure it runs smoothly on all platforms

Create Game Rules

The Stingray game engine is where you build levels and create the rules for how your game works – and you don’t need to be a programmer to use it.
