What’s new in Helius PFA for 2019?

Supported platforms
Helius PFA has added support for Autodesk Nastran 2019, Autodesk Nastran In-CAD 2019, and ANSYS 18.2 & 19.0.

Advanced Material Exchange now supports multi-filler materials.

The Temperature Interpolation feature for Advanced Material Exchange has been improved to allow you to select either a tensile or compressive environment.

Features

As-manufactured Simulation using Moldflow
Improve the simulation accuracy of injection moulded parts by importing material data and fibre orientations through the Advanced Material Exchange. Transfer as-manufactured simulation data from Moldflow plastic injection moulding simulation software to your structural model. Then, use this data to predict material non-linearity due to plastic deformation and matrix cracking, and conduct a more accurate structural simulation early in the design cycle.

Residual Stresses and Strains
Use the Advanced Material Exchange to incorporate the effects of manufacturing into your structural simulation. Transfer residual stresses and strains from Moldflow to provide an initial stress state, and to include possible warpage from the injection moulding process.

Support for Moldflow Materials
Use Advanced Material Exchange with multiple Moldflow materials, including fibre-filled plastics and non-filled plastics. Incorporate the material properties from the Moldflow database, and the results of the manufacturing process, into your structural simulation by transferring Moldflow results to your structural FEA code.

Support for Multiple Materials
Autodesk Helius PFA is designed for multiple material systems, each with its own failure modes accounted for in a progressive failure analysis. The software addresses uni-directional materials and a variety of woven materials, such as plain woven and 4-, 5- and 8-harness satin weaves. It also includes a pre-defined set of both uni-directional and woven materials, with all data taken from published experiments.

Static Analysis
Apply static loads and simulate progressive failure to see where damage initiates and how it evolves into ultimate failure.

Explicit Simulation
Simulation Composite Analysis software works with Abaqus/Explicit to simulate the progressive response subjected to dynamic loading.

Fatigue Analysis
Determine the life of your composite structure under fatigue loading with physics-based progressive fatigue-life calculation tools.

Element Deletion
Autodesk Helius PFA works with Abaqus Standard and Explicit to remove elements from a simulation due to various failure modes. You can improve convergence, efficiency and accuracy by running these realistic simulations.

Progressive Failure Analysis
Simulate the distinctly non-linear progression of failure events more accurately in composite structures. Work beyond the limitations of linear elastic and first-ply failure methods. Autodesk Helius PFA can efficiently handle material non-linearity, both pre- and post-failure. A unique material degradation scheme enables consistent and reliable prediction of global structural failure.

Composite De-Lamination
Simulate intra-ply (fibre and matrix) and inter-ply (de-lamination) failure simultaneously. Composite-specific technologies extend to Abaqus, MSC Nastran 2013, and ANSYS 15 cohesive elements, to enable out-of-plane damage simulation. Predict the onset of matrix cracking, and the start and propagation of de-lamination.

Reduced Mesh Sensitivity
Use energy-based damage evolution to control the rate of material degradation for your composite structure. The rate of stiffness degradation typically decreases as the size of the element decreases. Specify the finite energy dissipation from failure of the fibre and matrix constituents to reduce the mesh sensitivity.

Multiscale Analysis
Select the right advanced composite failure criteria to predict distinct failure of the fibre and matrix constituents. Accurately simulate complex failure modes of composites with popular constituent-based methods, including Hashin, Puck, Christensen, LaRC02 and Multicontinuum Theory (MCT).

Convergence and Computational Efficiency
Gain the improved accuracy of a constituent-based composite failure method. Review an analysis of composite failure with the help of unique convergence technology, specifically designed for composite materials.

Simplified Material Input
Access a pre-populated material library, or enter your own material information. The material library comes with composite lamina material properties fully characterised for simulations. A Composite Material Manager tool provides a convenient interface for creating new material files. Use standard strength and stiffness properties to characterise your own uni-directional or woven lamina to use in composite simulations.

Direct FEA Integration
Add Helius PFA to your finite element analysis (FEA) platform for advanced composite materials analysis. With quick conversion of legacy models, you can easily begin to improve accuracy and efficiency in composite simulation and progressive failure analysis. Integrate the software using an intuitive user interface with a simple extension to your existing FEA investment, including Abaqus, ANSYS and NASTRAN.

Difference between Single-User and Multi-User

Single-user:
Contract administrators grant access to subscription for single-user products and associated services by assigning a named user to a product. Each named user is an individual with a unique Autodesk ID. The number of named users you can assign per product is determined by the total number of licenses available for that product.

Multi-user:
Supports a specific maximum number of users on computers connected to a network. Licenses are issued via Network License Manager (NLM) software utility to each user who starts an Autodesk product, up to the number of licenses purchased. Usually returns to NLM when a user closes all Autodesk products, which makes the license available to other users. NLM can be configured to allow a user to borrow a license and disconnect from the network until a specified return date—a borrowed license is only returned to NLM on or before the return date
